Wedding Photography in Newport

Newport sits at a fascinating crossroads — part city, part countryside, with some of the most historically significant venues in South Wales within easy reach. It’s a place that often gets overlooked in favour of its neighbours, but I’ve always found it quietly brilliant for weddings. The venues here are genuinely special, and the light in the Gwent countryside on a good day is something else entirely.

I’m Lewis, a documentary wedding photographer based in Bridgend — about 30 miles west of Newport, roughly 35 minutes along the M4. Newport is well within my regular working area and a city I know well. I’ve photographed at Coldra Court Hotel, a beautiful country house with elegant interiors and fantastic gardens; the striking Tredegar House, one of the finest late-medieval manor houses in Wales; and the nearby Craig y Nos Castle, which draws couples from across the region for its operatic grandeur. Clearwell Castle, just over the border in Gloucestershire, is also a short drive from Newport and one of my absolute favourite venues for candlelit evening receptions.

Newport weddings have a wonderful warmth to them — people who are proud of where they’re from and want to celebrate in style. I’m there to document every moment of it, quietly and honestly.

What to Expect

Documentary is the word I keep coming back to, because it’s the most honest description of what I do. I photograph your Newport wedding the way it actually unfolds — without staging, without direction, without interrupting the day you’ve spent months planning. I spend a lot of time simply watching: reading the room, anticipating moments before they happen, being in exactly the right place when they do. It’s a patient approach, and the results tend to speak for themselves.

After your wedding you’ll receive a private online gallery of 400–600 fully edited, high-resolution images, colour-graded in my warm, film-inspired style and delivered within four to six weeks. Full printing rights are included. Packages start from £1,050 for full-day coverage from bridal prep through to the evening, plus a personal planning guide to help us make the most of your venue’s light.

Wedding Photographer in Newport, South Wales

Newport is one of the most underrated cities in South Wales for weddings. Positioned between Cardiff and the Brecon Beacons, it offers a surprising mix of grand country house hotels, historic estates, and relaxed riverside venues — all within an easy drive of the M4. I am based in Bridgend and cover Newport regularly, usually travelling in under forty minutes.

My approach is the same wherever I am working: documentary, relaxed, and quietly present. I want your wedding photographs to look like the day you had — not a production. I will spend most of the day invisible, stepping forward when it matters and stepping back when it does not.

Newport Wedding Venues I Know Well

The Celtic Manor Resort — Newport's best-known wedding venue and one of the most recognisable in South Wales. The resort's multiple buildings, championship golf course grounds, and formal gardens give a photographer enormous scope. I love the combination of grand interiors and natural landscape here.

Tredegar House, Newport — A seventeenth-century country house managed by the National Trust, set in ninety acres of parkland on the edge of Newport. The restoration-era interiors are extraordinary, and the walled garden provides some of the most naturally beautiful ceremony backdrops in the region.

Coldra Court Hotel, Newport — A converted Victorian manor house on the edge of the city with well-kept grounds and flexible spaces. Reliable for both intimate ceremonies and larger receptions.

Manor House Newport — A more intimate option, with characterful period rooms and a relaxed atmosphere that suits documentary coverage particularly well.

If your Newport wedding venue is not listed above, please get in touch — I work at venues across the whole of Gwent and beyond. Travel to Newport is included in my standard packages at no extra charge.
