Wedding Photography in Cardiff

Cardiff holds a special place for me. I’ve photographed weddings across South Wales for years, and the city keeps pulling me back — not just because of the incredible venues, but because of the energy of the place itself. There’s something about Cardiff on a wedding day that feels alive: the castle grounds glowing at golden hour, the Victorian arcades buzzing before a ceremony, the sense that history and modernity are sitting comfortably side by side.

I’m Lewis, a documentary wedding photographer based in Bridgend — just 20 miles west of Cardiff — so the city is as familiar to me as my own backyard. I’ve worked at venues right across the area: the timeless grandeur of Cardiff City Hall, the romantic woodland setting of St Fagans National Museum of History, the sweeping elegance of Hensol Castle in the Vale, and the intimate warmth of Sully House and Pencoed House. If you’re after something with genuine heritage and a little drama, Old Beaupre Castle near Cowbridge offers a backdrop that photographs unlike anywhere else in Wales.

Cardiff weddings are wonderfully varied — grand civic ceremonies, relaxed garden parties in the Vale, city-centre receptions with a modern edge. Whatever shape your day takes, my job is to be there, watch, and photograph it the way it actually feels.

What to Expect

My approach is documentary. I photograph your wedding the way a good story unfolds, not the way a shot list dictates. That means I spend the day moving quietly through the moments as they happen — the nervous laugh before the ceremony, the first look across the aisle, the dancing that starts before the DJ has even warmed up. I’m not going to round people up or shout directions. The most beautiful images come from giving you space to be fully present in your own day.

After your Cardiff wedding you’ll receive a private online gallery of 400–600 fully edited, high-resolution images, delivered within four to six weeks. Every image is colour-graded in my signature warm, film-inspired style — no heavy filters, just honest light and genuine emotion. Full printing rights are included. Packages start from £1,050, which covers full-day coverage from getting-ready through to the first dance, a digital gallery, and a personal planning guide to help you nail your photography timeline.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far do you travel to Cardiff?
I’m based in Bridgend, around 20 miles from Cardiff city centre — about 25 minutes on the M4. Cardiff is well within my regular working area and there’s no travel surcharge for any wedding within South Wales.

Do you know any good venues in Cardiff?
Yes — Cardiff City Hall and St Fagans are probably the most iconic, but I also love shooting at Hensol Castle for that grand countryside feel and Sully House for its warm, intimate atmosphere. Old Beaupre Castle is a personal favourite for something truly dramatic. If you’re considering a venue I haven’t worked at, I’m happy to visit beforehand.

How many photos will I receive?
For a full-day Cardiff wedding you’ll typically receive between 400 and 600 fully edited images, delivered via a private online gallery that’s yours to download, share, and print from at any time. Turnaround is four to six weeks, though often sooner in quieter months.

Wedding Photographer in Cardiff, South Wales

Cardiff is one of the most exciting cities in the UK to photograph weddings in. From the sweeping parkland of Bute Park to the dramatic coastline of the Vale of Glamorgan just thirty minutes south, the capital offers an extraordinary range of settings and styles. I am based in Bridgend — twenty-five minutes from Cardiff city centre — and I work in and around the city throughout the year.

I shoot documentary style, which means I am recording your day rather than directing it. I work quietly, blend in with your guests, and focus on the moments that reveal who you are as people — the small glances, the laughter during speeches, the relief and joy as you walk back down the aisle. Cardiff's diverse mix of venue types, from grand civic buildings to boutique hotels to rural castle estates, gives a photographer like me a lot to work with.

Cardiff Wedding Venues I Have Photographed

Fonmon Castle, Vale of Glamorgan — One of the most beautiful privately owned castles in Wales, situated near Barry, thirty minutes south of Cardiff. Continuously inhabited for over nine hundred years, with extraordinary period interiors and formal gardens. An exceptional venue for photography.

Hensol Castle, Vale of Glamorgan — A Gothic revival castle with a working winery, formal gardens, and grand ceremonial spaces. Twenty minutes south of Cardiff and one of the most dramatic venues in South Wales.

The Old Library, Cardiff — A stunning Victorian civic building in the heart of Cardiff city centre, now one of the most characterful event spaces in Wales. Beautiful architecture, dramatic columns, and a location that makes city portraits effortless.

Coed y Mwstwr Hotel, Coychurch — A Victorian country house hotel on the edge of Bridgend, equidistant between Cardiff and Bridgend. Lovely woodland grounds and well-appointed interiors.

St Donat's Arts Centre, Llantwit Major — A mediaeval castle on the heritage coast of the Vale of Glamorgan, with sea views, ancient courtyards, and an atmosphere unlike anywhere else in South Wales.
